Trader Joes bibimbap bowl

This Korean rice bowl is a gonna be a bigger smash hit than Psy’s 2012 K-Pop song, ‘Gangnam Style’! Aren’t familiar?! Check it out here. I digress. Ok, maybe that’s just a very slight exaggeration. But this ready made meal is actually pretty dang tasty!

I’m honestly not a huge fan of frozen meals. Most of the time, they are just literally complete garbage, and they taste as such. But I also realize the importance of keeping something on hand for those nights when you come home extra late, don’t have time to cook, and just need to get a hot meal in your belly in short order. I only allow certain brands and meals to occupy this special repertoire of my freezer stock, and this bowl definitely makes the cut!

As far as the flavor is concerned, the bowl is a bit on the spicy side. I’d rate it at a 6.5 on a scale of 1-10. But I enjoyed it, and I didn’t think it was overbearing in the least bit. The rice, also, was surprisingly good. They nailed it here. It tastes similar to the type of rice you are actually going to get when you sit down at a proper Korean restaurant, as opposed to the very standard and run of the mill typical chalky white rice you’d expect to find in a product like this. The most surprising element of the ensemble for me was the quality, taste, texture, and consistency of the beef. I was expecting shoe leather, but what I got was actually fresh tasting juicy cuts of goodness. Whoa! How they heck do they pull that off!? You’d expect anything that’s been frozen for this long to lose at least some of those qualities! The only place where the dish falls short is the vegetables. Nothing to write home about. They are just kinda there because they have to be there. You know, like a little brother at his sister’s piano recital. Sorry Maria, the truth comes out now years later…

This bowl is definitely worth some of your freezer real estate! Give it a whirl and let us know what you think down below! 2.99
