Trader Joe’s Hatch Chile Mac and Cheese Review
Most of the times when I’ve bought a frozen mac and cheese product I’ve been let down. Rarely is it the case when my expectations are exceeded, but this is definitely one of those times. This mac and cheese really surprised me. The slight hint of spice that comes through with the Hatch Chiles really makes this unique. It’s a very mild heat, so don’t be scared off if you don’t typically like really spicy foods. The creamy sauce was on point, not too sweet, and just tied the whole thing together nicely. It was not watery either. The most impressive thing to me about this item was the consistency of the cooked noodles though. It’s hard enough to get a freshly baked macaroni dish to cook properly, whereby you don’t over do the noodles, let alone having to freeze the dish first and then cook it later. They figured it out though! These noodles were perfect! A word of caution, even though the package didn’t say anything about doing this, I decided to try to crisp up the top of the cheese layer by finishing off the cook time with a few minutes under the broiler. The plastic tray started to melt on me, so don’t do that! Haha. Let us know what you think down below! This one is a solid 4 chester for me though. $2.99
