Trader Joe’s Seasoned Kale Chips

Man, now here’s another story of kale gone wrong in my book. Unfortunately this one was a blunder for me, and I did something that I NEVER do and tossed about 1/2 the bag because I just couldn’t get into the stuff after buying it. So what’s the deal? Alright, the roasted kale chips are coated with some sort of cashew seasoning which just overpowers on the flavor. For me, the sweet of the cashew coating and the leafy taste of the kale just do not mix well at all. The consistency and texture really got me here too. It’s kind of a chalky chewing experience which leaves a little pastyness of the unsavory flavor left to linger in your mouth. To top it all off, and I don’t really blame TJ’s for this, because I know it’s pretty much unavoidable, but about half the bag ends up as being just kind of kale and cashew dust. Bleh, just not good. To be honest, I think this would have been a smash hit if they kept it simple. You know, like K.I.S.S.? Toasted kale, salt, pepper, maybe a light spray of olive oil? Heck you could even make that yourself quite easily at home by yourself if you wanted to. Hmm, maybe I’ll make a video about that. Check it out for yourself though. See what you think. They also make a nacho cheese flavor, but I’m not even gonna bother giving that a try. $3.99
